Blast from the past!

You know what's a good vampire movie from the 80's? No, not Lost Boys, though that was good. What? No not Fright Night, though again, a good one. I'm talking about Vamp. I just saw it again recently and I still enjoyed it after all these years. It's a lot of fun. True there is an appallingly unlikely bit at the end involving barrels of gasoline, oh and there's also the albino stereotype. But apart from those two things, it's a pretty good movie.

The screen writer was given a title and these instructions; it must have college kids, stripers, and vampires. I think he did a pretty good job within those parameters.

The DVD includes a the short film that got the director the gig. It's a sort of musical disco comedy called Dracula Bites The Big Apple.

Give it a chance if you happen upon it in the video store.

Vamp gets 4 out of 5 bloddy crosses.

Have you seen Planet of the Vampires? I caught some of it on TV the other day- the design is pretty nifty- a bunch of Italians on the production staff- so it has rather an operatic look. The plot is not so much a classic vampire one as it is more of an interesting transition step between Forbidden Planet and Alien- a lot of similarities to Alien, actually- explorers discover mysterious giant alien skeletons.
